Sartorial Spells: Weaving magic for the fashion conscious.

Don’t you absolutely love it when that wacky trend you’ve been following for ages finally becomes all the rage?  Feathers. Who would have thought, that these strange accents in the most vivid colours would be the latest style statement on the block? From ELLE to Cosmo, no magazine editorial is complete without the feather accent! They’re all over the town be it in Claire’s or on the streets of Bandra. Ayesha has some of the prettiest, girly feather accessories.

Tribal Zone has the craziest of designs, combining their trademark beads with these flurries. Despite these, my favourite remains Colaba Causeway, with beautiful collars and earrings, in headbands and wristbands.

Whether in neon green, orange, the beautiful peacock feather, or even bright turquoise, feathers are here to stay!  No matter how plain your outfit is, a feather or two can jazz things up instantly- throw in a pair of neon green feather earrings, messy hair, casual flats and you’re all set to go.

How much is too much?

Be warned!  Feathers are definitely accessories that you can go terribly wrong with. Can you really do printed feathers? How long should the earrings be? What colours? Should they match the outfit or clash with it? If you decide to flirt with feathers, you’ve got to be careful. One simply cannot go for different animal prints and feathers together. However, put on an enlarged Aztec top with bright orange feather drop earrings and you’re outfit instantly becomes cutting edge.

Best ways to wear those gorgeous feathers!

ce28b459f3fb1922c89692956a0b125fDress them up or down, work them in the day, or show them off at night! Feathers can work with any outfit you want. If you want to go for something casual-throw on a simple single peacock feather chain with a beige top  and denims and you’re good to go. But if you’re going all out, rock a neon green feather collar, with that little black dress. People will sure find it hard to resist giving you that second glance! Some of us vertically challenged people might not be able to carry off those drop feather earrings, but hey, we can rock the collars.

For those of us with beautiful, toned arms, bracelets are the way to go, and if you believe in funk, feather hair accessories are your thing! Just pin those colourful strings to your mane, and voila! However, wearing feathers in your hair without looking like Captain Jack Sparrow is a talent that we are yet to master.. Don’t attempt hats unless you’re Princess Eugenie and have a Royal Wedding to attend.

Feathers aren’t only for those few ‘rocker chic’ girls, there’s a type for all of us! Put them on clips, and you’re the girl next door; wear a simple cuff and you’re flaunting your ‘devil may care’ attitude.  A collar for those chic days and plain beaded feather earrings for the chilled out feel….  So don’t hesitate to work and experiment with feathers whenever you can, as there’s an occasion and type for everybody!
